Primary school, which is known as Primaria, has an official entry age of seven and a duration of six grades. At the end of the cycle, students receive the Certificado de Estudios Primarios. Secondary school is divided into two cycles: lower secondary and upper secondary.
Lower secondary, which is known as Educación Secundaria Básica, consists of grades 7-10 and culminates in the Graduado en ESBA; upper secondary, which is known as Educación Secundaria Bachillerato, consists of grades 11-12 and culminates in the Bachillerato. In addition, Equatorial Guinea has an early childhood education program, called Pre-escolar 1, that has a theoretical entry age of one and lasts three years. There is also an upper secondary vocational education track that lasts two years (ISCED 2011 mapping for 2016 school year).
